フィンランドからの帰国の報告もしていませんでしたが、イベントのお知らせです。中之条町の「かたや」という古民家施設の横にある家を改装しながら借りている、ニューヨークから移住した音楽家の島田武人さんが小さなシアター「視聴学」を立ち上げました。その柿落としに映像作品3本を上映していただくことになりました。フィンランドの風景1本と、学生時代に作成した映像2本、東京都美術館での展示の際は検閲が入り、音がなかったものを今回フルで上映します。夜7時から3セット。小さなシアターなので、メールで予約をお勧めします。詳細は以下リンクより。

あけましておめでとうございます。
昨年は大変お世話になりました。一年前の年始時点で展示の予定は一つだけだったので、溜まった制作作業にしようかと思っていた年だったのが、
個展の話がふたつも舞い込み、通訳・翻訳や、コンテスト審査の仕事もいただき、一年を終えてみれば全てこなせたのが奇跡のようでした。

今年は、いままで制作活動と並行して行なっていた会社員生活でたまった資金を元に、フィンランドでの制作撮影から始める予定です。
もうすぐ2年になろうとしていますが、ロシアによるウクライナへの侵攻時に、自分のプロジェクトへの危機感を覚え、
パスポートを取得し山仕事を辞め東京で会社員として働きながら準備を進めて来ました。

1940年の冬戦争の際に「焼かれた」教会がある、ロシア国境から10kmほどの所にあるフィンランドのレンティーラ村に3週間ほど滞在して撮影して来ます。
平均気温が最高で-10℃という場所で、4年振りの海外行きでどうなるか全く見えませんが、がっつり撮影してきたいと思います。

Happy new year!
Thank you all for your support last year. At the beginning of last year, I thought I only had one exhibition coming up,
and my plan was just to take it easy with keep working on the works I had set aside.
Then two solo exhibitions jumped in, and had commissions like interpreting, translating, and judging a contest.
At the end of the year, I felt it was like a miracle that I have done all of them.

This year, I start with my continuous project in Finland, utilizing the funds I made from my life as a business worker,
which I have been doing in parallel with my artist activities.

When Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago, I felt some concerns for my project,
so I got a passport, quit my forest job, and started preparing this by working as a company employee in Tokyo.

I will be staying for about three weeks at the village of Lentiila (10km away from the border to Russia) in Finland,
where there was a church that was “burnt” during the Winter War in 1940.
Will keep you updated with my activities.

「River to River 川のほとりのアートフェス2023」に参加する事になりました。展示会場は、広瀬川美術館。前橋の歴史や文化の要になっている川の側にある、由緒ある場所にての展示ができて光栄です。内容は今までの「セルフポートレイト」から、自分を見直す内容となっています。

東京都写真美術館での3ヵ月の展示、6/5に終了しました。定員オーバーになった、クロージングトークも濃い内容でした。作品3点はこのまま永久収蔵となります。いらっしゃって頂いた方々、来られなくとも気にして頂いた方々、ありがとうございました。引き続き次に繋げていけたらと思います。

Glad to announce this exhibition organized by Tesa Morin. It was 2001 when I got my Master’s degree from University of North Texas, and young artists around that time at there are showing works at Denton! I shipped my prints from the Akagi series. One is 22 feet-long print, and honored to show it at my alma mater. If anybody have a chance to be near Denton, Texas, please swing by.

This is the first actual Nakanojo Biennale exhibition after I moved to this town, and will be my 5th participation of the biennale. My daily work as a lumberjack/arborist cannot talk without the current employer Kitamok which owns and provides the exhibition space for showing my images from Finland. I will be showing large images from Lapland as well as waxed prints from my visit to Klovharun (Tove Jansson's summer island). Please come by if you have a chance. I will have a slide presentation, and workshop (wax transfer). The exhibition is from September 14th until November 10th.

さて、早速ですが、お知らせが2点ほど。

フィンランド、フィスカルス村での滞在制作：
中之条ビエンナーレの一環として、中之条町へ移住した作家や、ビエンナーレディレクター、総勢6人でフィンランド南部のアーティストビレッジ、フィスカルス村にて滞在制作を行います。2週間ほどの滞在でそれぞれの作家がどれだけのものが出せるか、楽しみです。オープニングレセプションは2月14日を予定しています。機会合えば是非お寄りください。

個展：
3月1日より高崎にある画廊、ビエント・アーツ・ギャラリーにて個展を開催させていただくことになりました。「Topology」と称して、祈りの場所をテーマにした創作活動を発表します。今までの撮影活動に加え、昨年フィンランド東部で撮影した新しいイメージも含めた展示を行います。こちらもよろしくお願いします。

Information!
Will stay and do Artist-in-Residence at the Fiskars viallage of the south part of Finland. This is the part of the Nakanojo Biennale - Exchange Exhibition Program. We, the six artists (including the Biennale Director) will stay at there about 2 weeks, and have an exhibition! The opening reception is sought on Feb. 14 for now. Solo exhibition at Takasaki, Gunma, Japan! Will have a solo exhibition at the gallery called Viento Arts Gallery from March 1 until April 1. I am planning to have one large piece (2 x 3.4m, previously created), and new prints from the recet shrince series "Topology". And also, new images I shot last summer at the east side of Finland. 個展のおしらせ:
2018/7にフィンランドのコリ国立公園にて滞在制作した活動からの結果一部を展示します。「逢魔時」、"Twilight"という光に興味を持ち、日没前後(午後11時頃)に撮影したものの制作結果です。そのむかし手元に灯がない時にすれ違う人の顔が見えないため、「魔」に逢う時とも言われた時間に撮ったイメージです。向こうとこちらの境界線に立った時に見えるものとは、を考えました。

Some of the images that I shot while I was staying at Koli, Finland during July, 2018. I shot those images around the dusk of a day (around 11PM) at the forest of Finland. Japanese culture mentions that the time is to meet devils, since you cannot identify a person's face if you meet on a street. It is a notion of standing on the line between the world of this side, and that side where we cannot see.

7月の1ヶ月間、フィンランドのコリ国立公園内にあるアーティスト・レジデンスにて滞在制作を行います。フィンランド東部にあるこの国立公園の景色は、シベリウスがフィンランディアを作曲する際にインスピレーションを受けたなど、フィンランド人の原風景でもあると言われています。東山魁夷が北欧を旅した際にも立ち寄ったとか。民族叙事詩、カレワラの舞台となっているカレリア地方に属しています。また、自分が現在進めている祈りの場所や、国境などの境界線、それにまつわる歴史などについても考察できればと思います。

Next month, I am going to stay one month at the Koli National Park located at the eastern part Finland. It is said that this scenery gave some inspirations to Jean Sibelius when composing the Finlandia. I will be pursuing my current project about the space for people to pray, or borders and their history.

ビエンナーレであるアメリカ、テキサス州ヒューストンでのフォトフェスト。2012年のポートフォリオレビューに10kgの
ポートフォリオを持ち込んだ結果、ブラジルのコレクターに作品を買って頂いたのと、数百人の参加者の中から10人の
「Discovery of Meeting Place」という、展示作家に選ばれました。
2014/3/15から4/27までヒューストンの街中がFine Art Photo 一色に染まります。

After I participated the portfolio review during the biannual art photo festival called Fotofest at Houston in 2012,
I was selected as one of the 10 exhibition artists for the "Discovery of Meeting Place 2014".

作品はCantos Familia シリーズからのものがすべてですが、構成を完全にキュレーター任せてみました。
今までちゃんと見せた事のない、小さい作品(45cm x 45cm)などを額裝してもらって展示、
と、違う形態での見せ方になります。

Starting from Feb. 1st for 2 months, there will be a solo exhibition at the Pictura Gallery at Bloomington, Indiana, United States.
All the works are from the series, Cantos Familia, but most of them are in smaller pieces (45cm x 45cm), and framed (!).
Please come by if you have a chance to be near by the Midwest area!

国立新美術館でのグループ展、"Domani"、始まっています。

国立新美術館でのグループ展、"Domani"に選ばれました。
年明け、1月12日土曜日からの開催で、会期は2月3日までとなっています。
フィンランドからの作品が中心ですが、既作群に新作を4点ほど加える予定です。
文化庁主催なのですが、某政党、「仕分け」のおかげでオープニングレセプションはありませんが、
大きな美術館での展なので楽しみです。



I was selected for a group exhibition at the National Art Center of Tokyo.
It starts from 12th of Jan. and spans for 1 month until Feb. 3rd.
Please swing by for my first show at a national museum!!

写真の師匠がMetropolitan Museum of Artのグループ展に入って、オープニングに入れてもらえたので、行ってきました。



来年１月のグループ展が本格的に動いています。詳細が分かり次第アップします。

4/21より6/17まで、栃木県の小山市立車屋美術館にて個展を開く事となりました。東京から電車で一時間弱ですので、皆様おいで下さい。詳細は後ほどアップデートします。
また、来週、テキサス州ヒューストンにて行われるFotofestに参加します。お近くに居る方はご連絡下さい。



Fotofest

I am having a solo exhibition at the Kurumaya Museum of Art, Oyama, Tochigi from April 21 through June 17. It is about an hour from Tokyo by train, so please come by. The details will be updated soon.
Also, I will be attending the Fotofest next week at Houston, Texas. Please let me know if you are around.

作品の仕上がりを確認する小さな空間。物置小屋、ガレージのような場所。
ガラクタ部屋という意味の 「ランバー・ルーム」という言葉を借りたスペースを、
出展作家の添野が作りました。
お披露目を兼ねて、親しい三人で展示、「at and out」を行います。

The name came from "Space for Junks" in 19th century at Great Britain.

東京仙川でのチャリティー展、出展した１点は売れませんでした。でも、友人に借りがあったので、その分を以て購入。作品を友人に送りつけようかと思っています。

ほか、気になった小さな作品を3,000円にて購入。

イベント期間、作品とパフォーマンス・コンサートのおひねりも含めて1,153,638円の義援金が集まったそうです。全て赤十字に送られるとの事です。

来て頂いた方、ありがとうございました。

My piece did not get sold, but finished, and the event itself earned 1,153,638 Yen (= 14,053.62 USD, or 9 992.62 EUR). This goes to the Red Cross Japan for the Tohoku Relief Fund.

I bought one piece for 3,000 yen, and decided to dedicate my piece to my buddy in the States. I owe him, so.
